According to the Indian Nursing Council, health is a state of well-being that allows individuals to lead productive lives, encompassing psychological, social, and economic dimensions. Health is not a privilege but a right for all people, and individuals, families, and communities share the responsibility of maintaining their well-being.

Nursing plays a vital role in the healthcare delivery system and actively contributes to national health goals. It is dedicated to participating in the implementation of national health policies and programs. Nursing aims to identify the health needs of people, plan and provide quality care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals and community groups.

The scope of nursing practice covers promoting, preventing, curing, and rehabilitating care for individuals throughout their lifespan, in various healthcare settings. Nursing practice is based on the application of fundamental concepts and principles derived from physical, biological, and behavioural sciences.

Nursing is rooted in the values of caring and strives to help individuals achieve independence in self-care. It requires practitioners to develop compassion and understanding of human behaviour, delivering care with respect, dignity, and protection of individuals' and groups' rights.

The undergraduate nursing program at the post basic level provides a comprehensive education within an academic framework, building upon the skills and competencies acquired at the diploma level. It specifically focuses on enhancing critical thinking skills, competencies, and standards necessary for professional nursing and midwifery practice, in line with the National Health Policy 2017.

The faculty members have the responsibility to serve as role models and create a learning environment that fosters inquiry-driven, self-directed learning and promotes a lifelong learning attitude among students.
